Step 1: Measure the Floor Space
The first step is to measure the floor space in your car where you'll be placing the floor mats. Use a measuring tape to get an accurate measurement of the length and width of the space.
Step 2: Trace the Outline
Place the floor mat in the car and use a pencil to trace the outline of the floor space onto the mat. Make sure the outline is accurate and the mat covers the entire floor space.
Step 3: Cut the Mat
Remove the mat from the car and place it on a flat surface. Use a ruler or straight edge to ensure that your cut is straight, then use scissors to cut along the outline you traced in step 2.
Step 4: Test the Fit
Place the trimmed mat back in the car to make sure it fits properly. If it does, great! If not, make any necessary adjustments and repeat the trimming process.
Step 5: Repeat for Each Mat
Repeat the process for each mat you'll be using in your car. Make sure each mat fits properly before moving on to the next one.
Remove the mats from your vehicle to avoid dirtying your interior
Shake well! Loosen up the debris and dirt in an appropriate area
Break out the hose, if available. Hose down the mats to further remove unwanted particles. If a hose is unavailable, a bucket of water can do the trick.
Mix a light amount of baking soda and laundry detergent into water. A 1/4 cup of each per gallon of water is about right.
Go ahead and soak the mats. Use a microfiber towel to scrub them down, a scrubbing sponge or anything rougher can leave marks and scratches.
Hang them in a clean area, free from dust and winds.
